Union County Primary School will be offering incoming kindergarten students an opportunity to participate in a
KinderKamp prior to starting school. Students will attend a two-hour classroom session where they will be able
to participate in sample class activities to help familiarize them with a kindergarten class. Parents will not be attending the student classroom session with their child, however they will need to attend a 30-minute parent orientation session.
In order to give each new kindergarten student a realistic school setting experience, the entire week of April 28th – May 2nd from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM has been reserved for KinderKamp. Students will only need to attend one of the 2-hour classroom sessions during this week. Registration for the camp will be required for both the student and the parent’s 30-minute orientation session. Parents should plan to bring their child to the Primary School lobby where the soon-to-be kindergartner will be greeted and escorted to class. Parents will need to return to the school for their 5:00 PM orientation and to go through a reenactment of the student pick-up process.
The following is a list of requirements for registering and attending KinderKamp:
· Students will need to be registered for kindergarten for the 2014-15 school year.
· All registration documents will need to be on file with the school.
· Parents will be required to attend a corresponding 30-minute parent orientation.
Register for KinderKamp by calling the Primary School at 706-745-5450 April 14th – April 23rd. To ensure a KinderKamp reservation, please register as soon as possible during the above dates.
Union County Schools focuses on Common Core Georgia
Performance Standards (CCGPS)
The Union County School System strives to stay abreast of state regulations and best practices in instruction. The upcoming 2012-2013 school year is no exception as our school system focuses on a national set of Common Core curriculum standards adopted by Georgia as well as many other states. The national Common Core standards have been personalized for Georgia students resulting in what is commonly known as CCGPS. There will be ongoing training for teachers and administrators in preparation for implementing and testing based on these standards. Click here for a brochure detailing the CCGPS initiative.
Find A Book GA is a valuable website that allows students and parents to search thousands of book titles by both Lexile measure and topic to find books that will tap into students' personal interest and complement their reading comprehension level. Click here to access Find A Book GA.
Union County Schools will be practicing safety drills using a variety
of scenarios. Please do not be alarmed if you see emergency
equipment or your student comes home saying the police or fire persons
were in their building. School safety is of great importance
therefore, we will be practicing regularly.
